How this calculator works
The countdown takes today’s date on your device and counts the calendar days to December 25. Christmas is a fixed date, so the only thing that changes is the day of the week it falls on — in 2026 it is a Friday. Thanksgiving moves: it is always the fourth Thursday of November, which in 2026 is November 26. If this year’s date has passed, the calculator counts to next year automatically.
The live clock counts the exact hours, minutes and seconds to midnight at the start of the day you picked, in your own time zone, and updates every second while the page is open.
Assumptions and tips
- Counts use the date and time zone set on your device.
- Christmas Eve is counted to midnight on December 24, Christmas to midnight on December 25.

Coming up:
- Thanksgiving — Thu, Nov 26, 2026: 21 days
- Christmas Eve — Thu, Dec 24, 2026: 49 days
- Christmas Day — Fri, Dec 25, 2026: 50 days
- New Year’s Eve — Thu, Dec 31, 2026: 56 days
- New Year’s Day — Fri, Jan 1, 2027: 57 days
Step by step:
- Today: Thursday, November 5, 2026
- Target: December 25 — if it has already passed this year, next year’s date is used
- Days left = target date − today, counted in whole calendar days
- Weeks = days ÷ 7 (whole weeks) with the remainder as extra days
Common mistakes to avoid
- Counting today as one of the days left — the count is the number of days until the morning of the 25th.
- Forgetting that Thanksgiving moves: it is the fourth Thursday of November, not a fixed date.
