How this calculator works
Age is counted the way people say it: full years first, then full months, then remaining days. If the day of the month hasn’t been reached yet, a month is borrowed using the length of the previous month. Total days is the exact number of calendar days between the two dates.
Years, months, days = calendar difference (borrowing days from the previous month)
Total days = (Age-on date − Birth date) in days
Assumptions and tips
- People born on February 29 are treated as having a birthday on February 28 or March 1 in common years, depending on the date you check — the day count is always exact.
Worked example
Using the default values in the calculator above:
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Date of birth | 1990-05-15 |
| Age on (leave blank for today) | 2026-11-01 |
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Age | 36 years, 5 months, 17 days |
| Years | 36 |
| Total months | 437 |
| Total weeks | 1,902 |
| Total days | 13,319 |
| Days until next birthday | 195 |
| Born on a | Tuesday |
Step by step:
- Count full years from the birth date to the “age on” date
- Then count full months after the last birthday
- Then the remaining days (borrowing the length of the previous month if needed)
- Total days = exact calendar days between the dates
Common mistakes to avoid
- Subtracting birth year from the current year without checking whether the birthday has passed.
